The MacBook is on it’s way!

We have ordered the MacBook 2.16 Ghz (white, of course – I don’t understand why we’d pay more for it to be in a different color?!) on Amazon because right now they have a $100 rebate!!! We didn’t pay for the special superfast shipping so it might be a while until we get it. This has given us time (OK, has given Christian time – I have no idea what is going on) to move files from the old PC to the external hard drive. Apparently the AirPort Extreme and our external hard drive did not get along happily as friends but have spent the last few days ignoring each other, which means no files can be moved. I have drawn a picture to illustrate what the battle between the 2 peripherals looked like. I call it “The AirPort and Hard Drive Case Grudge Match”:

The AirPort Extreme won this match, because it turned out that the hard drive case was defective and we had to buy a new one.

Getting a Mac…sooner!

So, yesterday Apple released the new MacBook, which didn’t have an updated graphics card like we had hoped, but it did lower the price of what was formerly the highest model and is now the lowest. We originally thought this update would come around mid-June.

There’s been a lot of discussion as to whether MacBook has the graphics capability to handle my favorite game, The Sims 2. Currently we have the PC version of the game, but technically we could still run it in parallels, since the Mac now has Intel. Christian runs his MacBook Pro in parallels a lot for web development purposes.

My sweet husband has been working so hard over the last few weeks to prepare our external hard drive to accept all the data from our old PC so it is actually already ready for the transfer as soon as we purchase the AirPort Extreme.

The reason we decided on a laptop is because Christian already works most of the time at home on his MacBook Pro, which he can take anywhere. I have been stuck at the end of the hall on a relatively uncomfortable chair, playing Sims 2 alone on the giant 4-year-old PC. What I really want is to be able to go out in the living room and sit with my husband, if he is working also or if he is watching a movie.
So, I am really excited. I think we will be getting the new computer very soon!

I discover the neti pot on the same day we get a Wii

Two fun things!

First, my friend told me about this amazing thing called a Neti Pot.

Apparently it has been on Oprah but I am never home during the day so I wouldn’t know about that. All I know is that I had a terrible allergy sinus headache all day yesterday and it really impaired my ability to do anything. She told me about this thing that washes out your sinuses and I literally drove straight to Whole Foods and bought it. It is SO AMAZING! My sinuses felt better right away and I did it again this morning – so far no headache! You have to check out this video that shows how to use it. OK so I did not do the weird yoga bends afterward but it worked great anyway!

Secondly, while I was discovering this amazing thing, Christian was playing with our new Nintendo Wii. We have been saving for it for a while now – it’s his birthday money from last year – but just now bought it. I didn’t get to play it much last night because I was at CR and afterward was busy pouring water through my nasal cavities. However, you do get to name your Wii when you first log on, and I was so in love with the Neti pot at the moment that Christian named ours “NetiWii”. Isn’t that sweet? I think it is!

Thank you for commenting about the housing! We did take a look at some townhome type apartments this weekend and were all ready to fill out an application and talk to our community about it, when we took a look at our budget. Then we realized that we need to stay the course where we are for a few more months. It made me really sad, because now I really want to have people over to play our Wii, but we have a goal of paying off debt and we need to reach that before we can make any housing changes. The good news is, we were able to shorten the length of time that will take, so we are hoping to be in the position to look at new places again at the end of the year. Feel free to send any good info our way between now and then!
