7 Quick Takes Friday #1

I have been following the Conversion Diary blog for a while as a lurker (I admit it), and I would highly recommend it. It is very thought provoking. It is so thought-provoking that I don’t follow in my Google Reader because I can’t handle reading it unless I am in the right frame of mind. Also, I rarely comment because Jennifer gets so many comments that mine are rarely needed. Having no kids yet and not being Catholic myself, I usually don’t have anything to contribute that would be helpful anyway. I learn more from the comments others make.

I am still online for work right now, I have 5 more hours left in my shift. Things have been slow the last few hours, but I expect that means that all hell is about to break loose and I’ll be online past the usual quitting time of 10 PM. Is it a full moon? Full moons have been proven to correspond with my co-workers’ craziness increasing.

Last night we got to see RiffTrax Live with the original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 riffing on Plan 9 From Outer Space. I was a little tired but it was date night, and since our relationship was founded in part on our mutual love of MST3K, I considered it essential that we see this, and I was glad we did. I could never have made it through that horrible movie without the riffing, for sure. I love those guys.

I just watched the episode where SpongeBob Squarepants almost gets his boat driver’s license. And now it is snowing under the sea. That makes no sense!

I am trying to get better about posting more frequently on this blog even if I have to go a little off-topic because I want to be interesting. I am considering using some blog writers’ prompts from other sites on some days. If you know of any good ones, let me know!

My husband requested a main dish with fruit this week and I wanted to try this recipe from AllRecipes.com. Being a vegetarian, I don’t buy meat much. I had to go to 3 stores trying to find free-range chicken that was less than $8/lb. I eventually gave up and bought regular we-torture-our-chickens-in-factory-farms chicken which was still $8 a pound just because it was organic. Ridiculous that it was 1) so difficult to find free-range chicken, and 2) so extremely expensive even for the regular kind just because they were fed grain instead of the parts of other chickens. They still grew up never seeing the sunlight and with their beaks and feet cut off. I do not miss meat at all.

In case anyone cares, the cat has started pooping outside the box again. Despite the fact that I gave up the green litter and went back to the kind that never biodegrades, we bought a new litter box, we took off the hoods of both boxes, and we bought a new mat, she is still doing it. I have no idea why. I am completely out of ideas.

1. I have this toe thing where if someone were to unexpectedly grasp a toe or toes I would be completely unable to breathe and probably have a heart attack. If you are planning on trying this, please thing about the fact that you would be touching someone’s feet. And stop it. 😉

2. I love Ben Folds, and I can’t stand John Mayer. I am sorry, John Mayer fans, but it is true.

3. I am very smell-sensitive. Bad smells really cripple me but good smells can really make me super happy.

4. Somehow I have never learned to cook American food that well. If I need to make a fast meal, it’s always Asian (stir-fry) or Italian or even Mexican. Is that because American food is big chunks of meat and I don’t eat that?

5. I believe that coffee is very important and wonderful, even though my husband doesn’t like it so much.

6. It really bothers me when people are rude to each other or yell at each other. I can’t stand political debates sometimes for this reason.

10. FUTURE CHILD’S NAME? Not sure if there will be one, but if there was, I think I would have to meet it first. I don’t believe in naming things you haven’t seen.

12. DO YOU LIKE TO DRIVE FAST? Not really. It’s too expensive, in the end.
13. DO YOU SLEEP WITH A STUFFED ANIMAL? No I sleep with a husband, which is much harder to catch.

15. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR? a blue Nissan pickup truck with no AC and no power steering. I was 80 lbs and I lived in Texas. Think about that.

31. WHAT SCREEN SAVER IS ON YOUR COMPUTER RIGHT NOW? None at home and the computer at work does not allow me to select a screensaver. The IT people believe that would give us too much power to let us pick our own screensaver. It would be anarchy for sure.
32. FAVORITE FAST FOOD? I don’t really eat fast food, but I like Schlotsky’s veggie sandwich OK and also Freebirds burritos (half-bird).

1. Do you like blue cheese? not by itself. If it is in something and it blends with other stuff, maybe. But by itself, I think it smells and tastes like vomit.
2. Have you ever smoked heroin? This confuses me because movies have led me to believe that heroine is injected. What is it? Injected or smoked?? Obviously, I haven’t.
3. Do you own a gun? No, but we bought a teeball bat to keep by the bed for self defense. It is Christian’s job to hit an intruder over the head with it if someone breaks into the house.
4. What flavor do you add to your drink at sonic? I don’t mess around with flavoring regular soft drinks, I go straight for the Ocean Water, buddy.
5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments? Not really. All the bad news typically comes in a phone call later when the test results come back.
6. What do you think of hot dogs? Bologna is imitation meat, Spam is imitation bologna. Hot dogs are like spam and bologna. Gross.
7. Favorite Christmas movie? A Muppet Christmas Carol or the original Boris Karloff version of The Grinch.
8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning? I have orange juice first and then coffee.
9. Can you do push ups? Theoretically I can. I have some arms and I am a reasonably strong person. But there is no need to test this theory. That would be too strenuous.
10. What is your favorite piece of jewelry? My wedding rings and the two pieces of Tiffany jewelry my husband gave me when we were dating.

12. Do you have A.D.D.? I think I did when I was younger but I have developed the ability to multitask to the extent that even though I get distracted I keep doing all the things at once.
13. What’s one trait you hate about yourself? My tendency to be neurotic. Or come across as neurotic even when I’m actually not feeling that way.

24. Do you own slippers? Yes, they are so beat up but I love them.

29. Would you be a pirate? Not really because I don’t think they bathe very often and the likelihood of dying suddenly and painfully is much higher than the movies would have you believe.
30. What songs do you sing in the shower? I am not awake enough in the shower to do any singing anymore. I am too old.
31. Favorite girl’s name? I like names like Rain and Sunshine and Meadow, but Christian says those are hippie names and so no child of ours will be having those names.
32. Favorite boy’s name? Christian invented the best boy’s name in the world and it can also be used for a girl. It is so great that I cannot tell you what it is because someone might steal it.
33. What’s in your pocket right now? Nothing.
34. Last thing that made you laugh? Christian. There was tickling.
35. Best Halloween costume? When I dressed up as Janice Rand from the original Star Trek series. But I would say that other people have had much better costumes. Like the year that Leanna and Scott went as John and Lorena Bobbit.

37. Do you love where you live? no, no one loves living in Dallas except extremely rich people who like showing off to the other extremely rich people, and that is a sick, sad cycle of discontentment if I ever saw one. That is to say, the only people who love living here are masochistic.
38. How many TVs do you have in your house? one. it is a huge, old thing. And we try not to use it much.
39. Who is your loudest friend? possibly my family. my family is very loud.
40. How many dogs do you have? none. cats are better. cats. I have two.
41 Does someone have a crush on you? Hopefully not, that would sure be awkward for them since I am married and they have absolutely no chance.
